He is a California native from South Central LA where he learned the art of basketball from Park Leagues, Travel Teams, and High School Sports, and is where his love for mentoring young leaders was born. Coach Shoals has over 20 years of coaching, teaching, and mentoring all age levels of athletes. Sports has been the focal point of his life and at a very young age, learned that dedication, patience, and hard work are the keys to success in sports and in life. Coach Shoals currently completed his 6th season with Pasadena High School Girls Basketball Program where he mentored 2 years as JV Head Coach and the latter 4 years as an Assistant Varsity Coach. He attended California State University at Northridge as a Freshman starting his journey in IT Operations Management. He then pursued studies to higher learning at the Devry University of Technology where he received his B.A. in Network and Communications Management. Charles currently works in the Healthcare Information Technology sector for Hospitals like Kaiser Permanente, Cedar Sinai, and City of Hope where he teaches and leads a team of Tech Gurus that support over 15,000 Physicians, Nurses, and Physical Therapists on an EHR platform. Coach Shoals is also part of the internship program at NGS where he mentors High School Students who are pursuing careers in Information Technology and Healthcare Services. Coach Shoals is super excited to be part of Each One Teach One West, Inc. Team and feels extremely blessed to be part of a program that gives back to our youth.
Having over 24 years of experience in the field of education and coaching, He holds a Master’s degree in Education and has taught in the Los Angeles Unified School District for the majority of his tenor.
Wagner’s winning tradition began as a starter on John Muir High School’s first CIF Championship team. In his senior year, Wagner won Pacific league MVP honors and was nominated to the All-CIF Southern Section 4-A Division’s First Team. He was also a Street and Smith All-American and McDonald All-American honorable mention.
Wagner began his collegiate career at Pasadena City College under the fundamental instruction of Coach George Terzian. In his sophomore season, he averaged 19 points and 11 rebounds while shooting 67% from the field and 88% from the free throw line. Wagner was named league MVP and was one of the most highly recruited Junior college players to come out of the state of California.
Wagner was recruited by Coach Roy William to play at The University of Kansas. He was a two year letterman and honorary six man, playing in 62 games and shooting 65% from the field. In his senior season, Wagner served as one of the captains on the 1991 Big Eight Championship and Final Four Finalist teams.
Upon graduating from KU with a Bachelor’s in communication studies, Wagner pursued a professional basketball career in France and Turkey. Soon after, he landed his first assistant coaching position at Manhattan College before realizing his passion still lied in playing the game of basketball. He then ventured to the continent of Australia where he finished out his basketball playing career.
As a coach, Wagner worked as an assistant at Campbell Hall where he helped coach the Vikings to an 83-7 record over a three year period. Wagner was also worked on and off for several years as a 7th and 8th grade Viking basketball coach.
As a head coach, Wagner guided the West Adams Prep Panthers to a 7-5 league record in the school’s opening year. In the following year, he improved his league record to 13-1 and had an overall season record of 17-6. In just his second year as the Panther’s head coach, his team earned one post season appearance and one league title and he was named the Southern League “Coach of the Year”.
Most recently, Wagner has worked as assistant men’s basketball coach and adjunct professor in the physical education department at Glendale Community College and as a head coach with a reputable basketball club.
Wagner is a mentor to many and a respected teacher and coach.
He is dedicated to insuring that Each One Teach One West Inc. be that beacon of light for the youth of today.
Born and raised in Harlem New York, and resided in the Bronx from middle school through 10th grade. Like any other inner city youth McCullough spent the majority of his time at the local park playing basketball as a way to stay away from the ill’s the street plagues so many of our minority youth with. Fortunately McCullough’s uncle Robert McCullough, 1967 NBA draft pick of the Cincinnati Royals (now known as the Sacramento Kings), co-founder of Rucker Park, and Each One Teach One, inspired Freedom as a youngster to stay in school and use sports as a vehicle to attain a college degree. McCullough migrated to Altadena Ca where he attended John Muir H.S. where he played Basketball with the likes of Stacey Augmon (UNLV), Kirk Wagner (Kansas), and Wayne Womack (Arizona) winning the schools first C.I.F. Boys Basketball Championship.
McCullough attended Pasadena City College where he received his A.S. degree and played for the Lancers basketball team earning a full Basketball scholarship to California State University Northridge where he majored in Kinesiology. McCullough also attended Ashford University where he received his B.A. in Organizational Management. McCullough accumulated a large scale of comprehensive knowledge in areas of the body, physical conditioning, as well as coaching.
Most recently McCullough has taught and coached at Campbell Hall Episcopal in North Hollywood Ca for the last 24 years were he has achieved great success as a Boys’ Varsity basketball and golf coach. He also coached Girls’ Varsity basketball at La Salle H.S. in Pasadena Ca.
While at La Salle, McCullough completely turned to program around taking a team with a 7-21 record to 22-10, advancing to the C.I.F. division 3A semi-finals for the first time in the school’s history. Following that up with a 20-8 record advancing to the quarter finals. McCullough was named (2017) Pasadena Sports Now Coach of The Year. McCullough was also an assistant coach for Campbell Hall’s 2005, undefeated 32-0 C.I.F./State Championship team. Where several members have gone on to play in college and 3 members currently playing in the NBA, and 1 playing professionally overseas.
McCullough is honored to be the President of Each One Teach One West, Inc. team and privileged to have a such a highly qualified Board of Directors whose mission is to give back to the community by changing lives through education, mentorship, using sports as the vehicle.
